"I hit very hard" - Walter Goncalves believes his KO power could be the difference-maker against Aliff at ONE 169
Walter Goncalves isn't concerned about needing to adapt to his new weight class after competing in the flyweight division for so long. The Brazilian contender has fought some of the best in the world in this division, but it's time for a new chapter in his career.
In his return at ONE 169 on Nov. 8, Goncalves will move down to the strawweight division, where he faces Aliff Sor Dechapan in a fight that is sure to produce fireworks.
The 26-year-old contender believes that he will be able to play to his best attributes in this fight despite the size difference that will be on display.
Walter Goncalves is confident that he will be able to get on the inside where his powerful strikes will be the difference against the varied arsenal of Aliff.
He told ONE Championship in a recent interview that he plans on bringing the thunder at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, next time out:
"What makes me better in this fight is that, even though I'm very small, I hit very hard. I have heavy hands, and I know I have much more strength than him."
Walter Goncalves is ready to start fresh
Walter Goncalves is living proof of how competitive ONE Championship's flyweight division is.
The Brazilian came up against the likes of Rodtang and Superlek during his time in the weight class and will now take that experience with him down to strawweight.
Results weren't going his way so even if he was fighting at the very highest level, something had to give.
We will find out on Nov. 8 at Lumpinee Stadium whether he can compete with the best in the weight class below.
Kicking that run off with a victory over Aliff would be a big statement for the Brazilian who needs to return to the win column.
