"I just want to pass and choke him out" - Gabriel Sosua eyes second submission win over BJJ wizard Mikey Musumeci

Few things in the world of combat sports are as exciting as seeing two rivals get into a rematch and that is exactly what Gabriel Sousa plans to do at ONE 167 on June 7.

Happening inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, Sousa will make his ONE Championship debut against flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci in a rematch that is three years in the making.

In an interview with El Estudio de Leo, Sousa pointed out how his long-awaited rematch with Musumeci just might play out:

"I know we're not going to wrestle, and I know I'm not going to pull guard. So, it's like, I see him pulling guard and then getting into entanglements and attacking my legs. And on my end, I just want to pass and choke him out."

There is some merit to Sousa's assessment of Musumeci's potential attack plan as the New Jersey native does have a tendency to go after footlocks, and it will be how Sousa counteracts that attack which will determine Sousa's chances of winning.

Sousa has his sights set on pushing Musumeci to his limits once more, but Sousa is not against showing respect for what his longtime rival has achieved since they last grappled with one another.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Sousa stated:

"If I could choose an outcome, of course, I would like to submit him on his back. Pass his guard and submit him on the back. But, again, we are two very high-level athletes. A very similar level. Let's see how it goes this time."

ONE 167 will air live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
