“I just want the real championship” - Jarred Brooks can’t wait to unify the strawweight belts with Joshua Pacio
For Jarred Brooks, claiming the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title is still not the same as becoming the undisputed king of his division.
At ONE Fight Night 24 last weekend, 'The Monkey God' once again claimed the golden belt that he once lost after defeating his Cuban foe Gustavo Balart via a first-round submission in their main event tilt.
As the result, he was crowned as the interim king while the divisional ruler Joshua Pacio is recovering from an ACL injury.
Since Brooks previously lost his belt to the Filipino via disqualification, after unintentionally spiking Pacio's head onto the canvas, he can't wait to settle the score once and for all at a trilogy fight to unify the belts.
The Indiana native told Sportskeeda MMA:
"I just want the real championship. This means a lot, but it doesn’t mean as much as the real strawweight world championship."
Nonetheless, Brooks was also eyeing for another option if Pacio does not recover soon:
"But also, you know, if he’s not in the mix, then I think that, you know, it shows that I’m the real champion, and then I can go against somebody with the likes of Demetrius Johnson."

Jarred Brooks puts Demetrious Johnson as a priority over Joshua Pacio
The newly crowned interim strawweight king Jarred Brooks has called out one of the best mixed martial artists of all time, Demetrious Johnson.
After snatching the coveted belt from another game challenger in Gustavo Balart, Brooks said that Johnson now is his highest priority, topping the unification fight against his old rival and divisional ruler Joshua Pacio.
'The Monkey God' told ONE in his post-fight interview that he would take DJ's superfight in a heartbeat over Pacio:
"Let's run that back in a good way, good fashion, but at the same time, he's second on my list. I do want to bury his name. But yeah, Josh, he's second on the list, compared to Demetrious Johnson."
