“I was a little bit nervous” - Jonathan Haggerty relives his fight with Nong-O for bantamweight Muay Thai crown
One of Jonathan Haggerty's many accomplishments was to defeat a Thai legend and former ONE bantamweight Muay Thai kingpin Nong-O Hama.
But it was not all easy, even for Haggerty, who has experience in facing other high-level foes in his striking journey. In fact, he admitted that he was quite nervous to face a legendary striker who had beaten everyone in his path before.
'The General' opened up in his retrospective YouTube video posted recently, and he said some words about that epic fight with Nong-O:
"This fight was difficult. When they threw the fight to me, they told me, you're going to fight for the Muay Thai bantamweight world title, I was buzzing. And I was a little bit nervous for this one because Nong-O was beating everyone. Ten fights undefeated, knocked everybody out."
But then, the Brit striker found a sense of confidence when he accepted the challenge. He said:
"I used to watch him as a young kid, probably the best fighter in the world at that time. Accepting that fight, I was confident that I could beat him."
Haggerty is in his final preparation for another high-stakes bout, where he will face Superlek Kiatmoo9 to defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai belt at ONE 168: Denver on Sept. 6.

Jonathan Haggerty vs. Superlek now headlines ONE 168: Denver
As Stamp Fairtex is still recovering from her unfortunate knee injury, ONE 168 will no longer feature her against Xiong Jing Nan for the ONE women's strawweight MMA world title.
But lucky for all striking fans, Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek Kiatmoo9 are taking their place in the main event, as both will duel for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title currently held by the UK superstar.
In this match, Jonathan Haggerty will aim to exact revenge over his challenger Superlek, after suffering defeat in their first match outside of ONE.
Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are available via Ticketmaster.
