“I’ll wait for the right moment” - Aliff Sor Dechapan says he’ll work behind his counter to end Walter Goncalves’ night at ONE 169
Aliff Sor Dechapan already has his game plan laid out when he takes on Walter Goncalves in his next match under the ONE Championship banner.
The Thai-Malaysian star will face Goncalves in a strawweight Muay Thai fight for the opener of the stacked ONE 169 card on Nov. 8, US primetime, at the historic Lumpinee Stadium.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Aliff said he'll try to be patient in his approach against the hard-hitting Brazilian brawler.
He added that he'll work behind his counter to try and lure Goncalves for that one decisive knockout blow.
Aliff Sor Dechapan said:
"I’ll wait for the right moment when he walks towards me. And then I’ll counter his punch with a high kick.”
Aliff had one of the best runs of his career the moment he arrived at ONE Championship in 2023 when he racked up four straight wins in the calendar year.
Although he fell short in two hard-fought matches against Zhang Peimian and Ellis Badr Barboza, the 21-year-old rising star bounced back with a massive first-round finish of Zakaria El Jamari at ONE Fight Night 24.
Aliff will now try to mount another winning streak in the promotion, but facing off against Goncalves is still a tricky puzzle for any striker.
Goncalves is a two-sport phenom who once went to five rounds against ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon in his promotional debut.
Aliff's potential slugfest against Goncalves and the entire ONE 169 card are available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Aliff Sor Dechapan unimpressed with Walter Goncalves' performance against Rodtang and Superlek
Walter Goncalves is one of those rare fighters in ONE Championship who's fought Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Superlek Kiatmoo9, two fighters regarded as the best of their generation.
Aliff Sor Dechapan, however, isn't too impressed with that part of Goncalves' resume.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Aliff said Goncalves barely put up a fight against the two Thai megastars:
"This man has faced elite fighters like Superlek and Rodtang. He seems to be on another level when compared with me. However, he didn’t beat those two. So I think we should be on the same level."
