"I'm only 17" - Teenage phenom Johan Ghazali grateful for life-changing bonus money after starching Josue Cruz
Johan Ghazali has accomplished a lot of incredible things at just 17 years of age.
The Malaysian-American phenom proved the future is indeed bright for him after another stellar knockout victory in the promotion's United States return at ONE 168: Denver over the weekend.
After losing his perfect ONE record last June, 'Jojo' rebounded and silenced the naysayers with an emphatic finish over Josue Cruz inside 'The Mile High City's Ball Arena.
Ghazali, who's no stranger to receiving $50,000 bonuses, cashed in the big bucks anew and had a rather interesting post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson.
"I said this on my first bonus. I said, this is crazy man. I'm only 16, but now I'm only 17, so this is crazy man, I'm only 17."
The charismatic teen also made sure to express his gratitude to everyone who has been helping make his dreams come true.
"Thank you Mr. Chatri, thank you ONE Championship. Thank you to all the ONE Championship staff. They've made my trip here in Denver completely smooth. And thank you to Denver. What's up Denver? I've been here for almost three weeks now the hospitality has been great. The people are great. I love it here. So thank you, Denver, it's an honor. Thanks for the hospitality, and I love you guys."
Johan Ghazali reveals dealing with injury in fight camp for Josue Cruz
Johan Ghazali admits his preparation for Josue Cruz wasn't as smooth sailing as he thought it would be. For one, he broke his hand early in training camp, which prevented him from sparring.
'Jojo' revealed to ONE Championship:
"Honestly, I felt a bit off today because the whole fight camp, I couldn't spar at all because I broke my hand early on heading into the fight camp."
Like the true warrior he is, Ghazali overcame the hurdle and rose to the challenge.
