"I’m not a big fan" - Dana White dismisses talks of UFC event in Liverpool, thwarting Paddy Pimblett's Anfield ambitions

Dana White recently dismissed talks of a UFC event at Anfield, which thwarted Paddy Pimblett's ambitions. The Englishman has expressed interest in competing at the home of Liverpool F.C., but it doesn't appear to be in the promotion's plans.

The UFC CEO has been vocal about the differences between arena and stadium events and noted that the former provide a much better fan experience. The promotion has hosted several stadium events in the past, but White has remained consistent in being opposed to them.

During the UFC 304 pre-fight press conference, White was asked whether he envisions a future stadium event in Liverpool.

The 54-year-old didn't entirely shut the door on the idea of a stadium event, but mentioned that he remains opposed to the idea because of his preference for the atmosphere in arenas. He said:

"Listen, I've said many times, I'm not a big fan of stadium fights. We've done 'em. I like the intimate feeling of an arena. I like arenas. I think it's a better experience for the fans. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it [stadium event at Anfield], but I'm an arena guy." [16:17 - 16:31]

Paddy Pimblett claims Liverpool CEO expressed interest in hosting UFC event at Anfield

If there were to be a massive UFC pay-per-view event at Anfield, Paddy Pimblett would most likely be competing on the card.

'The Baddy' is one of the most popular fighters in the UK, and so it would be logical to have him competing in order to generate the most interest and sell as many tickets as possible to fill the 60,000+ seat stadium.

While speaking to ECHO, Pimblett even claimed that Liverpool CEO Bill Hogan has even expressed interest in making it a reality. He said:

"I've spoken to the CEO of Liverpool [Hogan] and they are all willing and happy to get it on. They want to do it...I've been in the boardroom where the CEO sits and they want to do it. I'd love the UFC to get in contact with them and get it done...It doesn't even need to be a title, I'd sell it out without a title." [H/T ECHO]
