"I'm a bit big right now" - Demetrious Johnson gives update on physical condition during lengthy break from MMA
Mixed martial arts legend and reigning and undisputed ONE flyweight MMA world champion 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson hasn't seen action inside the Circle since his unanimous decision victory over rival and former king Adriano 'Mikinho' Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10 in Denver, Colorado last year.
But the 37-year-old GOAT candidate says he's still in the mix and would take the next available fight that makes sense at this stage in his career. Right now, however, Johnson is focused on furthering his budding submission grappling career.
Also, he believes he's a little out of shape.
Speaking on the Believe YOU ME Podcast with Michael Bisping, Johnson gave fans an update on his current status as a mixed martial artist.
'Mighty Mouse' said:
"I'd still compete at 135 [pounds]. The reason I'm a bit big right now is because my calorie intake is above the roof. I make sure I have six or seven ounces of protein in every single meal, besides breakfast. Also, just lifting heavy. My cardio is down to a minimum."
He added:
"I'm not really focused on going [into fight mode]. I don't have a fight signed, but we'll get to fighting time soon. I'm just doing jiu-jitsu [now]."
Demetrious Johnson intrigued by the unpredictability of BJJ: "I'm getting all these puzzles"
Multi-time MMA world champion Demetrious Johnson may not have a fight booked yet, but he's keeping himself busy by competing in BJJ tournaments.
By the looks of it, the 37-year-old is enjoying himself.
'Mighty Mouse' said:
"When I'm going to a jiu-jitsu tournament, I have no idea who's in my bracket. I don't know what game they're going to play. Is it De La Riva, is it Lasso, is it Worm, is it Squid Guard? Are they a judo player?"
