"I'm more impressed with her opponent" - Danielle Kelly praises Kanae Yamada for valiant performance against Mayssa Bastos
Danielle Kelly has been studying her opponent ahead of her return at ONE Fight Night 24. Such is the pedigree of Mayssa Bastos that the Brazilian was already someone that Kelly had on her radar.
She's developed a track record for winning everywhere she goes and that was once again the case on her ONE Championship debut earlier this year. At ONE Fight Night 20 in March, Bastos debuted with a unanimous decision win over Kanae Yamada at Lumpinee Stadium.
Before they collide at ONE Fight Night 24 on August 2 where Kelly will put her ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship on the line, she spoke about what she learned from watching this contest.
The champion revealed in an interview with ONE Championship that she believes it was Yamada who came out looking better by the final bell but hasn't received the praise she deserves:
"Actually, I'm more impressed with her opponent because she went at Mayssa, and I feel like her opponent's not really getting much credit for some reason."
Danielle Kelly has the experience edge when it comes to ONE Championship
Mayssa Bastos may be well experienced when it comes to competing all over the world and being successful, but Danielle Kelly takes home-field advantage this time around.
The champion's experience proved crucial in her title-winning performance last time out when she secured the underdog win over Jessa Khan.
Feeling at home in ONE Championship could give her the small edge that she needs to come out on top but it will not be an easy night against Bastos.
The Brazilian will look to secure his second consecutive victory inside Lumpinee Stadium and add another title to her extensive list in the process.
It's a co-main event that will really test the champion and what she is capable of.
ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
