“I'm so obsessed over this thing” - Eddie Abasolo says he’s living the dream of pursuing Muay Thai as a professional career

American fighter Eddie Abasolo has found a purpose in Muay Thai and is grateful to have built a professional career out of it, which has led him to ONE Championship.

His journey started in his hometown of Vallejo, California, working his way to national prominence by competing in North America's more established promotions. Then in 2022, he caught the attention of ONE and was signed to a contract that has now seen him among the noted fighters in the "art of eight limbs."

In an interview on the 4oz to Freedom podcast, uploaded on YouTube on Oct. 23, Eddie Abasolo, 38, spoke about the Muay Thai ride he has had and how thankful he is to be living the dream.

'Silky Smooth' said:

"It's like I'm having a gym in my garage, especially since I live two miles away, you know. I can go to the gym whenever I want and just geek out. Like I'm so obsessed over this thing and I love it so much that I'm living the dream right now."

Check out what he had to say below:

Eddie Abosolo made his ONE debut in Nov. 2022. While he lost to British striker Liam Nolan by decision, he still made a good account of himself in their three-rounder. He then bounced back in his next match in March 2023, knocking out Niclas Larsen of Denmark in the second round.

His last match was back in February, engaging fellow American Luke Lessei in another barnburner of a contest.

Eddie Abasolo returns to action at ONE 169

Eddie Abasolo is set to return to action on Nov. 8 at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug, taking on rising Algerian star Mohamed Younes Rabah in a featured featherweight Muay Thai clash.

It is his first fight since narrowly losing to Luke Lessei by split decision in his last fight in February. The defeat is something he looks to redeem himself from and wiggle out of the rough patch he is currently in.

In an interview with 4oz to Freedom, in line with his upcoming fight, Eddie Abasolo said he is out to get the much-needed victory in whatever form. However, he'd like it to be a highlight-reel finish.

Abasolo said:

"If I could write the script, preferably, I would like to end it to the body. Because when you end it with a body shot they're still conscious and, you know. But to the body, to the head, to the leg, it doesn't matter to me. Whatever he gives me, I'll take it."

Out to frustrate him at ONE 169 is Rabah, himself out to get a bounce-back win after dropping his previous match last February by TKO to Thai Saemapetch Fairtex.

ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug will take place at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
