"I made sure to have no shortcuts" - Jackie Buntan strived hard to perfect her transition from Muay Thai to kickboxing
Jackie Buntan is an experienced striker at the highest level, but her next challenge will see her completely switch lanes.
The Muay Thai striker has become a staple of ONE Championship's female roster during her time with the promotion. Despite her success in this specific ruleset, Buntan's return at ONE 169 will see her make the switch over to kickboxing.
The 27-year old will face off with Anissa Meksen for the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world championship on Nov. 8 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Buntan knows that this is a big step for her to take in just one fight but she's been pulling out all the stops to ensure that she gets the best preparation possible.
It's important for her to be seamless in the way she transfers her skills over from Muay Thai into kickboxing.
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, the title challenger spoke about leaving no stone unturned heading into a massive clash inside the Thai capital:
"I made sure to have no shortcuts when it comes to strength transitioning into technique. I want to make sure that I'm doing the technique correctly, with full power."
Jackie Buntan knows that she needs to be on point in this fight
Jackie Buntan knows that she isn't going to have time to adapt to kickboxing during the fight on Nov. 8.
Standing across from her inside the legendary 'Mecca of Muay Thai' will be the incredibly experienced and acclaimed striker, Anissa Meksen.
It's a big ask for Jackie Buntan to go head-to-head with a specialist of the field in her first kickboxing outing of the ONE banner.
However, this won't affect the mindset of the Filipino-American who believes that with the right steps taken before the fight, she can rise to the occasion in order to secure ONE gold for the first time in her run with the promotion.
