"I was an owner first" - Mike Perry goes off at Conor McGregor despite latter's words of praise at BKFC presser
Conor McGregor recently shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry boxing match this weekend and lauded 'Platinum' for his rise to stardom in the BKFC. However, Perry seemingly wasn't buying McGregor's praise and slammed the Irishman's choice of words.
Paul and Perry are set to clash in the squared circle on July 20 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. While Paul was initially booked against Mike Tyson, the boxing legend was forced to withdraw due to health issues. Perry stepped in to replace 'Iron Mike' with the Paul-Tyson bout rescheduled for November.
During a recent BKFC presser, McGregor fielded some questions regarding Perry's boxing match against Paul. The Irishman unsurprisingly backed Perry to beat Paul and praised the bare-knuckle fighting star for his success in the BKFC. In his speech, McGregor mentioned that Perry's moniker, 'King of Violence,' was self-proclaimed, and 'Platinum' wasn't happy about it.
During a recent pre-fight press conference, Perry addressed McGregor's comments and reacted to Paul discrediting bare-knuckle fighters. He said:
"Don't clap for him, he's a disrespectful punk. Those men and women fight for their families over there. They put it all on the line... Conor said my name was self-proclaimed, but they gave me the title 'King of Violence,' and my tequila is going to be better than his whisky when that comes out... And, I was an owner first in the company."
Mike Perry on potential bare-knuckle fight against Jake Paul after boxing match
After sharing the squared circle with Jake Paul, Mike Perry is keen on fighting the former Disney star in a bare-knuckle boxing fight. Soon after their boxing match was confirmed, Paul expressed an interest in potentially facing Perry under bare-knuckle rules to prove he was a better fighter anywhere and everywhere.
While Paul is confident of winning a potential bare-knuckle fight, Perry doesn't buy his rival's confidence. During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, 'Platinum' dismissed Paul's confidence and said:
"One thing I want to remind Jake over and over again is that he wouldn't do a bare-knuckle fight. Whether he says he would or not, especially after this fight in 10-ounce gloves."
Perry continued:
"He wants to bring it up like 'boxing is this incredible sport and these hooligans are out there doing this bare-knuckle stuff' and blah, blah, blah. I'm going to beat him with 10-ounce gloves on. He definitely won't want to do bare-knuckle after that." [H/T MMAFighting.com]
