Alexander Volkanovski dismisses the claims of him being the greatest featherweight of all time
Alexander Volkanovski has revealed his featherweight GOAT.
Volkanovski’s success in the featherweight division has sparked a debate over the greatest featherweight of all time. Max Holloway used to be in the conversation, but ‘The Great’ has three wins over Holloway, leaving Jose Aldo and the current featherweight champion as the top choices.
Volkanovski was being interviewed during the UFC 281 fight week when he was asked about the featherweight GOAT. ‘The Great’ had this to say:
“I still look at [Jose] Aldo as the GOAT of the featherweight division. Obviously, I’m still planning to take that, right? I plan on winning. I wanna defend, defend, defend. I plan on getting just as much defenses as him. And especially when you look at the resume and who I’ve fought, a lot of people are going to agree that I’m up there. I mean, right now, to have that many defenses like he did, even though some of them were in a different promotion, but they still consider them defenses. I’ve got so much respect for Aldo.”
Alexander Volkanovski then concluded by praising Aldo:
“He’s done massive things for the featherweight division. He brought it. He made it exciting. He made people watch this division, so I’ve got nothing but respect for the guy…”
Although Volkanovski has a win against Aldo, the Brazilian legend has five more title defenses with his WEC title fights, which diehard MMA fans believe is a no-brainer. ‘The Great’ still needs a few more title defenses to separate himself at the featherweight GOAT. Luckily for him, he’s still active with time to solidify his legacy.

Alexander Volkanovski provides update on fighting Islam Makhachev in February at UFC 284
Alexander Volkanovski vs. Islam Makhachev seemed like a guarantee after the featherweight champion entered the Octagon for a faceoff at UFC 280. Volkanovski then concerned the MMA community when he posted a tweet asking Makhachev if he was a man of his word.
During the same interview, ‘The Great’ had this to say:
“Of course, that’s the plan. I want to go the champ champ. I think I deserve it, and a lot of people agree and I can’t wait, mate. It’s fired me right up… Yeah, it's a challenge. That’s what excites me. It’s a challenge I know I’m ready for… Obviously, we’re looking at Perth. We just gotta get that signed and make that happen, and we will. So, expect me and Islam to faceoff in February in Australia, which is going to be huge.”
Whether he fights Makhachev or not, Volkanovski needs to be in the UFC 284 main event in Perth, Australia. Israel Adesanya also made a comment this week about UFC 284 being the featherweight champion’s time to shine. ‘The Great’ competing to become a two-division champion in front of his home crowd against the newly crowned lightweight champion will be a sight to see.
