“I was so sure I was gonna win” - Liam Harrison says his mind still sharp but body no longer
British Muay Thai icon and now-recently retired ONE Championship athlete 'Hitman' Liam Harrison of the United Kingdom had no doubt in his mind he would end up victorious last weekend against Thai legend 'The Man Who Yields To No One' Seksan Or Kwanmuang. Unfortunately for the 38-year-old, in this case the mind was willing, but the body was not.
Harrison says Father Time finally caught up with him when he locked horns with Seksan in a three-round catchweight Muay Thai contest at ONE 168: Denver on Friday.
Speaking to the media at the official ONE 168: Denver press conference backstage, Harrison says he was beaming with confidence heading into the fight, but that it wasn't meant to be.
'Hitman' stated:
"I thought to myself going into it, I’m 38, I’ve been out a long, long time, I’ve been injured. If I’d have come back and I had won that fight, I didn’t see how I could lose that fight, I was so sure I was gonna win."
Harrison was coming off a more than two-year layoff due to a knee injury he suffered in 2022 against legendary Thai fighter Nong-O Hama.
Seksan turned in a vintage performance, stopping Harrison in the second round with a thunderous flurry.
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch a replay of ONE 168: Denver on demand via an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Liam Harrison commends ONE Championship for bringing in best global talent: "The level of competition here is unbelievable"
One thing 'Hitman' Liam Harrison is thankful for in his career is the opportunity to compete in the world's largest martial arts organization.
Without a doubt, ONE Championship has the best martial arts talent, especially in Muay Thai, where Harrison made his career.
He gave props to the promotion:
"The level of competition here is unbelievable, it’s the best of the best. And it’s just a shame that Father Time is catching up with me a little bit. Like I said I’m gutted, but what am I meant to do? There’s only so much your body can go through."
