“I think of them as a family” - Jarred Brooks says it "s*cked" to let down ONE Championship in Joshua Pacio DQ
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion and current first-ranked contender 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States let himself down when he spiked Joshua Pacio on his head at ONE 166: Qatar last March, losing the ONE Championship belt in the process.
But more importantly, Brooks says he let the fans, the organization, and Chatri Sityodtong down with his suplex blunder at the Lusail Sports Arena.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post in a recent interview, Brooks expressed his dismay at the situation in Qatar.
'The Monkey God' said:
"Yeah, man, it s*cked to let down the ONE Championship team, I think of them as a family. And I told Chatri that after my fight, I always lose with good graces no matter what."
Brooks added:
"You know what I'm saying. Seeing Chatri, how upset he was cageside. It really was a culture shock to me, to the point where I was just like, man, I really did mess up, and the boss isn't happy. I'm a company man, I really want the company to flourish, and I want the company to be in good graces with the people that are one, investing. Two, that are viewing and understanding our sport and how different we are to different organizations."
