“I think I can show a stronger version of myself” - Takeru Segawa motivated to showcase his best in second fight with ONE

Takeru Segawa is out for redemption, and he's extra motivated to show his strength in his sophomore appearance at ONE Friday Fights 81.

With a scheduled clash against Myanmar's Thant Zin inside Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium on September 27, the Japanese megastar knows that there are much at stake when he returns to competition.

Previously, Takeru was forced onto the sidelines after sustaining injuries when he faced the two-sport ONE world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in Tokyo, Japan.

Now, he told ONE Championship that he has been improving his skills and condition to exceed any expectations ahead of his fight with Zin.

'The Natural Born Crusher' said this about his time in recovery:

"It was a good period to improve my level based on the previous experience. I think I can show a stronger version of myself."

With such confidence and grit, it would be no surprise if the 33-year-old Takeru Segawa marks his return with a finish to entertain the raucous Thai crowd. North American fans can catch all the actions at ONE Friday Fights 81 via global pay-per-view at watch.onefc.com.

Takeru Segawa can't wait to represent Japan on the global stage

As a country with deep martial arts connections, Japan has been known to produce top-level fighters in various disciplines, including kickboxing megastar Takeru Segawa.

For that reason, Takeru wants to make his country proud by proving himself as a world champion – similar to what Hiroki Akimoto did in 2022 with the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title.

He shared his thoughts in the same interview with ONE:

"I want to achieve results on the ONE stage as a representative of Japan, [fellow Japanese fighter Hiroki] Akimoto has already become a ONE world champion once, but I want to show the strength of Japanese fighters in ONE as a Japanese representative."
