"I think I have the size" - Aljamain Sterling talks about getting offered fight against Alexander Volkanovski if he had defeated Sean O'Malley

Aljamain Sterling recently discussed his move to 145-pounds and claimed that there was a plan in place for him to challenge former champion Alexander Volkanovski.

'Funk Master' is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Calvin Kattar at UFC 300 and has his sights set on the top featherweight contenders. He proved that he belongs in the upper echelon of the featherweight division and likes how he matches up with 'Volk'.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel via Championship Rounds, the former UFC bantamweight champion claimed that his title fight against Sean O'Malley had featherweight title implications. He mentioned that Dana White would have granted him a title shot against Volkanovski had he defeated 'Sugar' and believed it would be competitive. He said:

"I really do think back then, that version of myself, obviously that version that fought Sean [O'Malley] wasn't the best version of me. But, I'm saying back then I think I was skilled enough and I think I still am skilled enough to compete with a guy like Volkanovski. Just based on the size, I think I have the size to compete with him, I think I have the strength to compete with him, and I think I have the skillset to compete with him."
