“I’ve got way more on the line” - Jarred Brooks explains his attitude heading into interim world title tussle against Gustavo Balart
Jarred Brooks isn't just fighting for himself when he steps between the ropes this Friday.
The American wrestling machine believes he's fighting for more than his legacy when he faces Gustavo Balart for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title at ONE Fight Night 24 this Friday at Lumpinee Stadium.
In an Instagram video, Brooks said he's now fighting for his daughter Naomi and partner Francesca.
Jarred Brooks said:
"I wanna go out there and knock him out in the first round scot clean, get $50,000, go home, and feed my family. As a father and a martial artist, it's really hard to have a regular life and fight at the same time. So beating Gustavo, and getting this interim championship does mean a lot for me because it gives me another chance to get to that next step."
He added:
"I want that belt way more than him for my child. I've got way more on the line than he does. I'm gonna come out and I'm gonna try to kill you for my daughter, I hope that you try to do, too."
Brooks, though, is the only one between him and Balart who's eligible to win the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title after the Cuban star weighed in at 126 pounds, a hair over the 125-pound strawweight limit, during the card's official weigh-ins.
ONE Fight Night 24 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Jarred Brooks ready to match Gustavo Balart's energy at ONE Fight Night 24
Jarred Brooks is one of the most aggressive fighters in ONE Championship, and he wants Gustavo Balart to charge in with the same malicious intent.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Brooks said he and Balart will try to take each other's heads off in Bangkok in a matchup that would have the fans on the edge of their seats.
Brooks said:
"It’s two torpedoes coming at each other making fireworks. We’re looking to take each other’s head off.”
