“I’ve gotten used to it” - Japanese megastar Takeru says he’s used to the pressure that comes along with his fame
Japanese kickboxing legend Takeru Segawa has grown accustomed to the pressure of being one of the sport's best strikers.
After delivering an instant classic against Superlek Kiatmoo9 in his promotional debut at ONE 165, 'The Natural Born Crusher' returns to martial arts' biggest stage this Friday night for a clash with Burmese knockout artist Thant Zin at ONE Friday Fights 81.
Airing live on pay-per-view, the event will feature many can't-miss matchups, including a headlining bout between interim ONE featherweight kickboxing king Superbon and 'Smokin' Jo Nattawut. Fans will also be treated to the return of Thai legend Nong-O Hama and a massive matchup between Suablack Tor Pran49 and Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek Uthai.
Asked about the pressure of coming out on top in his sophomore appearance after falling to 'The Kicking Machine' in January, Takeru made it clear that over the years, he's gotten used to the pressure that comes with being one of kickboxing's most accomplished athletes. He told the South China Morning Post:
"I’ve always felt that kind of pressure since my K-1 days. I’ve gotten used to it, the pressure of being chased. I just have to do it."
Takeru plans on delivering a knockout finish at ONE Friday Fights 81
'The Natural Born Crusher' had hoped to be back inside the Circle much sooner, but after suffering a horrific leg injury in his bout with Superlek, Takeru was forced to take some time off before jumping right back into the gym.
Now that he's back to 100 percent and ready to go, he's determined to put on a show for fans inside the packed Lumpinee Stadium and those watching around the world on PPV.
"I'm very glad to be back, and i'm very excited to fight at ONE Friday Fights this Friday. I [want to produce] a knockout in front of the fans."
ONE Friday Fights 81 will air live and exclusively on pay-per-view on Friday, September 27, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. You can purchase the event exclusively on the official ONE Championship website.
