“I want no excuses” - Jonathan Haggerty glad to see Superlek’s peak form ahead of super fight at ONE 168
Two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty has no doubts he'll face the best version of Superlek Kiatmoo9 in their world title super fight this Friday. Haggerty will defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title against Superlek, the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion, in the main event of ONE 168: Denver at the Ball Arena.
In the days leading up to the fight, Haggerty expressed doubts as to whether or not Superlek would be properly acclimated to Denver's 1,609-meter altitude since the Thai megastar only left Thailand a week before the card.
Haggerty, however, realized his doubts were unwarranted after witnessing Superlek hit the pads during ONE Championship's open workouts on fight week.
In an Instagram video ONE Championship posted, Jonathan Haggerty said:
"Looks strong, looks ready, which I'm happy about. I want no excuses."
Haggerty, who also holds the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title, and Superlek were both in attendance during the open workouts at Easton Training Center a couple of days before their showdown.
Considering Denver's unforgiving altitude, Haggerty decided to acclimate to the city nearly a month before the event.
Superlek, meanwhile, only flew to Colorado at the start of fight week, a decision Haggerty initially worried about. Nevertheless, both main eventers look to be in peak form and ready to electrify Denver this Friday.
Jonathan Haggerty targets more super fights if he beats Superlek in Denver
Even though he's yet to touch gloves with Superlek, yet Jonathan Haggerty is already looking forward to a few matches he could take after the Superlek bout.
Haggerty told InsideFighting that he intends to defend his two world titles before he makes a potential move to MMA to challenge ONE bantamweight MMA world champion Fabricio Andrade.
He said:
"My plan is to beat [No. 1 bantamweight Muay Thai contender] Nico Carrillo. But at the same time, it's unfair to keep the kickboxing division on hold. I think they've got a new number one up there, and I've been defending my Muay Thai belt, I'll be defending it again [this Friday]."
Haggerty added:
"So I think it's only fair that I can defend the kickboxing division as well. I've tied myself up pretty much, but I'm gonna tie myself up even more by going into the MMA division. Yeah, why not?"
