“I want to be humbled in the sport” - Jarred Brooks says only Demetrious Johnson can send him back down to Earth
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States is known for his uber confident and brash demeanor in and out of the cage.
Brooks is a master of the art of trash talking, which often rubs people the wrong way. But in reality, 'The Monkey God' is merely waiting for someone to send him crashing back down to Earth.
That man could be MMA legend 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson.
Brooks has clamored for a fight with Johnson ever since he joined ONE Championship in November 2021. And if he gets past his next opponent, Brooks will push even harder for the showdown with 'Mighty Mouse'.
He told Sportskeeda MMA in a recent interview:
"I want to be humbled in the sport. And I think the best person for me to be humbled in the sport is Demetrious Johnson."
Brooks made his ONE Championship debut against Lito Adiwang at ONE: NextGen III, where he defeated the Filipino firecracker by submission in round two.
He then went on to win his next three fights, capturing the ONE strawweight MMA world title in the process.
His first loss in ONE Championship came in a grappling match against reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion 'Darth Rigatoni' Mikey Musumeci.
Then, just last March at ONE 166: Qatar, Brooks was disqualified against Joshua Pacio and lost his belt in the process.
Jarred Brooks returns to vie for interim gold against dangerous Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video
'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks is set to lock horns with Cuba's 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart in the main event at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video.
