“I want to prove people wrong” - Superlek admits he wasn’t satisfied by earlier TKO victory over Jonathan Haggerty
Reigning and undisputed ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 of Thailand is coming into his highly anticipated rematch with British counterpart Jonathan Haggerty with a huge chip on his shoulder.
The Thai superstar scored a technical knockout victory due to a cut over the current two-sport ONE world champ in 2018, but fans weren't completely sold on the win, with many claiming it was an early stoppage.
This has not sat well with Superlek, and the 28-year-old Bangkok native feels he has something to prove when he meets with Haggerty again at ONE 168: Denver in a couple of weeks.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Superlek says he is looking to leave no doubt in his upcoming rematch with 'The General'.
'The Kicking Machine' said:
"I’m not happy that I was questioned, as if I wasn’t able to win without the stoppage. I want to prove people wrong. I have always wanted a rematch."
Superlek is set to challenge Haggerty for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 168: Denver, which broadcasts live from the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on Friday, Sept. 6.
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video. Tickets to watch live in-stadium are available at Ticketmaster.
Superlek Kiatmoo9 wants to prove 2018 victory over Jonathan Haggerty was no fluke: "There was a lot of booing"
Flyweight kickboxing king 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 wants to put 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty in his rear-view mirror once and for all, when the two throw down at ONE 168: Denver.
The 28-year-old is looking for a decisive victory against the two-sport king. He told ONE Championship:
"Haggerty has always been someone [I wanted] a rematch with since our first match in 2018. That fight was stopped by the ref. I won by TKO, but the crowd wasn’t happy. There was a lot of booing as if I didn’t deserve to win. I want to prove that I can still win the fight without a ref stopping it prematurely."
