“I wish I caught him first” - Jonathan Haggerty says Superlek showdown came down to ‘a game of inches’

Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and former bantamweight Muay Thai king 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty believes that if he had just beaten 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 to the punch, it would be him as the victor and not the other way around.

The Englishman locked horns with the fiery Thai warrior in the main event of ONE 168: Denver last month, which took place live from Denver, Colorado's Ball Arena.

Unfortunately for Haggerty, Superlek connected on the elbow of the century, one that separated 'The General' from his senses almost instantly, causing an abrupt halt to their world title rematch.

Speaking to Sky Sports MMA Club podcast in a recent guest interview, Haggerty says the margin for error in that fight was so small, that it came down to who could land first.

'The General' stated:

"But going back to the changing room, there’s nothing you can do in the fight game with that, you know. It happens. It’s a game of inches like I said before. He caught me, I wish I caught him first, it’s just how it goes."

Needless to say, Haggerty and Superlek are two of the best fighters in the bantamweight division, and this is likely not the last time they will cross paths.

Jonathan Haggerty thankful for fan support after tough loss: "Got love around me"

Jonathan Haggerty may have felt he had let his fans down in a first-round knockout loss to Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver last month. But the Englishman has received a torrent of support from his fans.

Haggerty said:

"I’ve been great. I’ve got a lot of support from social media, family, and obviously the people around me. I’ve been great. Got love around me, which I’ve been thankful for, so that’s good at the moment."
