"If jealousy was an actual person" - Jon Jones goes off on Colby Covington after 'Chaos' accuses him of "ducking" Tom Aspinall
Jon Jones recently erupted at Colby Covington for accusing him of avoiding a potential showdown with Tom Aspinall. 'Bones' secured a dominant third-round TKO victory over former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, marking his first successful defense of the heavyweight title.
Following Jones' victory over Miocic, the MMA world is once again electrified by the prospect of a showdown with interim heavyweight champion Aspinall, who has persistently called for a title unification bout. However, Jones has yet to fully acknowledge the Brit's challenge, frequently disregarding the potential bout and even suggesting that he would rather vacate his title than face Aspinall.
While speaking to Fight Hub TV backstage following the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing event on Nov. 16, Covington expressed his belief that Aspinall possesses the skills necessary to defeat Jones. He further claimed that 'Bones' is intimidated by Aspinall, which is why he is "ducking" a potential matchup with him.
The video clip of Covington ranting about Jones' prospects against Aspinall was shared on Instagram by a page named UFC Snippets.

Jones chimed into the comment section of the post and fired back at Covington, accusing him of being envious of his achievements:
"If jealousy was an actual person. This is exactly what it would look like. I haven’t seen Colby in person literally since college; for him to have this much hatred, it could only be one thing. I mean, look at that passion in his eyes. What a sad boy."

Covington has consistently been one of Jones' harshest detractors despite the fact that the two once shared a close friendship and were even roommates during their time at Central Iowa Community College. However, their relationship has since deteriorated significantly.
When Colby Covington claimed Jon Jones asked UFC to keep them off same card
Jon Jones was initially slated to headline UFC 295 with Stipe Miocic. At the same time, Colby Covington, who was expected to challenge then-welterweight champion Leon Edwards, voiced his desire to have his title bout featured in the same event.
In an interview with Michael Bisping in August 2023, Covington claimed that Jones had urged the UFC to avoid pairing them on the same card:
"Is Jon Jones going to be willing to share a card with his former college roommate who knows all his dirty secrets, all the dirty skeletons in his closet? I bet that he’s going over to the UFC right now, and he’s telling them, ‘Yo, I’m not sharing a card with Colby. I will refuse to fight here.' A little birdie told me, Michael, that he went backstage with the suits and the big dogs of the UFC and said, hey, he refuses to share a card with me."
