In Photos: 41-year-old Stephen Thompson looks sharp in a series of snaps of himself practicing side kicks
Stephen Thompson posted several photos where he showcased his high-level side kick during a recent training session.
Over the last 12 years, 'Wonderboy' has separated himself as one of the greatest Karate specialists to fight in the Octagon. Throughout his 20-fight tenure, the American fan-favorite has showcased his world-class distance control and kicks to become a mainstay in the welterweight division.
At 41 years old, Thompson continues to evolve in his craft with intense training sessions. The number nine-ranked welterweight took to Instagram and shared photos of him working on his side kick, with the following caption added:
"π¦΅πΌπ₯ Perfect Practice Makes Perfect. Who says #sidekicksdontwork π₯"
Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson made his UFC debut in February 2012. Following an 8-1 start, the Karate specialist endured a two-fight series against Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title. Both meetings were a majority decision, with the first being a draw and the second a win for Woodley.
Since then, Thompson has attempted to climb the welterweight rankings and secure another title shot. Unfortunately for him, he's failed to accomplish his goal and lost four of his last seven fights. The question is, what's next for 'Wonderboy'?

Stephen Thompson's situation under the UFC banner?
Stephen Thompson last fought in December 2023 when Shavkat Rakhmonov submitted him in round two at UFC 296. Following the disappointing result, Colby Covington called out 'Wonderboy' for an intriguing clash of styles.
There hasn't been much traction for a matchup between Thompson and number four-ranked Covington. Instead, 'Chaos' seems destined for a fight against a fellow top contender. One option for Covington would be the winner of Gilbert Burns vs Sean Brady, which goes down on September 7 in an APEX main event.
As for 'Wonderboy,' it's unclear what the UFC has planned for him. Fans have continuously called for him to fight number 14-ranked Michael 'Venom' Page, which would be a fantasy matchup for striking fans.
Page started his UFC tenure with a unanimous decision win against Kevin Holland in March. Three months later, the highly-appreciated striker suffered a unanimous decision defeat against Ian Garry at UFC 303.
