Interim strawweight king Jarred Brooks says vacant flyweight crown is on his radar: "Demetrious just gave up his belt"
ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks is down to switch divisions and complete his dream of achieving double-champ status under the ONE Championship banner.
He had this to say during an appearance on the BODYSLAM. NET Pro Wrestling podcast, in light of Demetrious Johnson retiring and relinquishing the flyweight MMA crown at ONE 168: Denver on September 6:
"I know that Demetrious just gave up his belt. And if they wanted me to go against the ranked number one or ranked number two contender...I don't care if I have to fight two fights to get a ticket to that belt. If I'm a double-champ, it's very hard to not recognize me as one of the best in the world in my weight class."
Jarred Brooks was last in action in a dominant win over Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24 in August. The American star claimed the interim strap with a first-round submission win over the Olympian wrestler.

Jarred Brooks won't have it easy in the stacked flyweight bracket
As fired up as he is to attain another piece of gold, the top contenders in the promotion's flyweight division will be more than ready to welcome Jarred Brooks in their rank and prove why they deserve a shot at 26 pounds of gold.
Former ONE flyweight MMA world champion and top-ranked contender Adriano Moraes should be first in line when it comes to any talk about a world title fixture. Another impressive win for 'Mikinho' against Danny Kingad at ONE 169: Atlanta on Nov. 8 would further his cause.
At the same time, No.2-ranked Japanese warrior Yuya Wakamatsu is riding off two back-to-back triumphs over Xie Wei and Kingad. Like Moraes, the former world title challenger should be a favorite to collide for gold down the road.
Meanwhile, Kingad could flip the script and punch a ticket to the flyweight strap should he overcome Moraes in their rematch inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Either way, regardless of the permutation, Jarred Brooks can expect to have his hands full if he decides to venture into the flyweight rank and complete his quest to become a two-division MMA world champion.
