Is Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler canceled? Ariel Helwani shares his scoop on the matter
Rumors swirling about the possible cancellation of the highly anticipated lightweight rematch between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler at UFC 309 have been dismissed by Ariel Helwani.
Helwani reached out to Chandler's team and several sources who were unaware of any cancellation rumors, reinforcing the idea that the fight remains scheduled for Nov. 16. While cancellations often come with early signs, Helwani emphasized that no credible information suggested the bout would be called off.
In a video posted online, Helwani said:
"I reached out to Chandler's team and was told news to them. I reached out to a couple people, and they said news to them. Typically when something like this happens, there does seem to be smoke to the fire... but as of right this moment, I have not heard that the fight is off."

Chandler, who hasn’t fought in two years, was hoping to face Conor McGregor at UFC 303 before McGregor’s injury led to that fight’s cancellation.
Dustin Poirier ready to step in at UFC 309 if Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler falls through
Dustin Poirier has expressed interest in stepping in for the UFC 309 lightweight main event should Charles Oliveira or Michael Chandler face any issues. Poirier has not fought since June when he suffered a tough fifth-round submission loss to Islam Makhachev in a bid for the undisputed lightweight title.
After contemplating retirement, Poirier returned from a short break and made it clear he was ready for another fight.
After recent rumors surfaced suggesting that Chandler might be out of his scheduled bout against Oliveira at UFC 309, Poirier responded to the news, stating:
“I’m in.”
