"Is going to jail a part of his training camp?" - Former NBA player reacts to Jon Jones being charged with assault

Seems like there will always be a stormcloud of trouble over UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Troubles outside the octagon haunt him persistently, this time in the form of two misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident with a drug testing agent on March 30.

According to a police report obtained by ABQ Raw Jones was agitated when an agent for the UFC's anti-doping partners at Drug Free Sport went to Jones' home in Albuquerque in an attempt to collect a random sample. According to the agent, Jones threatened them, which he denies. He called the accusations "baseless" and only admitted to using profanity.

As far as the charges are concerned, a virtual bond hearing has been scheduled for July 17 in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court, when Jones will formally enter a plea. 'Bones' hasn't competed since his submission victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023. He will most likely face former two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic whenever he's fit to return to compete again.

Chael Sonnen stands up for Jon Jones amid legal troubles

Chael Sonnen has come out in defense of Jon Jones amidst reports of two misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident with a drug-testing agent.

The agents filed a report against Jones alleging that 'Bones' threatened to take an agent's phone to record the confrontation. He allegedly also threatened them by stating, “Do you know what happens to people who come to my house … they end up dead."

Sonnen spoke from Jones' perspective on his YouTube channel, stating:

"In his [Jones'] version of the story said he was celebrating, code for drinking, he was taking a nap, code for I don’t really want to be bothered. And, I think we all understand that right, we would all understand if somebody comes to your house and they’re banging on the door and you’re in the middle of the day and you got to jump up and you to go do this drug test and that’s all part of it.”

Sonne further claimed that all parties involved are narrating the same account while Jones pleads that this was not his "friendliest version."
