Is Mohammed Usman related to Kamaru Usman? Heavyweight set to fight Thomas Petersen at UFC Vegas 94
Mohammed Usman will fight Thomas Petersen at UFC Vegas 94. The event is scheduled for July 20 at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas. A few of us might have guessed it right: he is the younger brother of former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
Usman is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Michael Parkin at UFC Fight Night: Ribas vs. Namajunas and he will attempt to get back in the win column with a potential victory against Petersen this weekend.
Mohammed is following in his elder brother's footsteps and similar to Kamaru, he started his UFC journey by winning The Ultimate Fighter tournament.
Check out this tweet when Usman won the TUF 30 in 2022:
"Nigeria’s Mohammed Usman (2022) and Kamaru Usman (2015) become the first brothers to win UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter. Mohammed knocked Zac Pauga out cold with a vicious left hook at #UFCVegas59 to win TUF 30. Congrats to the Usman brothers."
Mohammed Usman fights in the heavyweight division of the UFC. He scored a brutal one-punch knockout victory over Zac Pauga to win The Ultimate Fighter at UFC Vegas 59 in August 2022. His elder brother, Kamaru Usman, also attended the event.
Mohammed Usman's elder brother, Kamaru Usman, maintained an astonishing win streak of 15 consecutive wins
Mohammed Usman's elder brother, Kamaru Usman, maintained an unbelievable streak of 15 consecutive wins. The 'Nigerian Nightmare' impeccably kept winning fights for seven long years, starting in 2015, before finally losing in 2022 to Leon Edwards. He was just one minute away from tying UFC legend Anderson Silva's record of 16 consecutive wins.
"At UFC 278, Kamaru Usman had a chance to tie Anderson Silva's 16 fight consecutive win streak. Up on the scorecards he lost in the last round. At UFC 281, Israel Adesanya had a chance to tie Anderson Silva's 13 fight MW win streak. Up on the scorecards he lost in the last round."
Usman had successfully defended his title five times during his reign as the UFC welterweight champion. Currently, Kamaru Usman is on a three-fight losing streak, with two of those losses coming from UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
In his last outing, Usman stepped up to fight highly touted middleweight contender Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in October 2023. Despite being a heavy underdog due to the perceived size disadvantage at middleweight and the short-notice nature of the fight, 'The Nigerian Nightmare' put forth a respectable effort and lost by a razor-thin majority decision.
