Is there a rematch clause in Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois contract? Eddie Hearn sets the record straight

Eddie Hearn recently discussed a potential rematch between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. Hearn claimed that although they have plenty of other possibilities to consider, a rematch with Dubois is still on the cards.

Joshua faced Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium this past weekend. Despite being the favorite coming into the fight, the 34-year-old struggled and was overwhelmed by Dubois. 'AJ' got dropped three times before being knocked out in the fifth round.

Following his defeat, many were curious about Joshua's next move, and whether it would be a rematch with Dubois. In a recent interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Hearn opened up about Joshua's future. The Matchroom Boxing promoter disclosed that while they are in favor of a rematch, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, who represents Dubois, will ultimately have the final say:

''We do have a further fight with Riyadh Season and and his excellency Turki Alalshikh and that could include a rematch with Daniel Dubois. Obviously from our side, that's one of the fights that that we could accept and would be willing to accept but at the same time his Excellency will have to deal with Frank Warren and make sure that they can look at a potential fight with us.''

Hearn continued:

''I think at the moment it's more about looking at the options for Anthony. I spoke to him about 10 minutes ago and it's all very fresh at the moment. Just over 24 hours after the fight so plenty of options and plenty of things to consider and think about as well.''

Eddie Hearn advises Anthony Joshua to wait for the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight

A lot was riding on Anthony Joshua's shoulders when he faced Daniel Dubois, especially because a win over Dubois might have paved the way for an eagerly awaited heavyweight bout with Tyson Fury. However, Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round.

In the aforementioned interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Eddie Hearn discussed Joshua's future and recommended him to wait for the outcome of Fury's heavyweight clash against Oleksandr Usyk, saying:

''My advice is don't do anything until December 21, Usyk vs. Fury. If Tyson Fury loses that fight, you set up a big fight with Anthony Joshua. If Tyson Fury wins that fight, you make a voluntary defence against Anthony Joshua for the unified heavyweight championship...In my mind, I think we have to wait to see what happens with Tyson Fury.''
