Islam Makhachev aims to complete Dagestani clean sweep over Brazilian fighters by beating Charles Oliveira at UFC 280

With a possible victory over Charles Oliveira at UFC 280, Islam Makhachev is planning to extend Dagestani fighters' winning streak against their Brazilian counterparts.

Makhachev uploaded a post on Twitter where he highlighted how two of his teammates have scored victories over two Brazilians belonging to Oliveira's team. In the post, the 31-year-old mentioned that he planned to take the score to 3-0 come October 23rd:

"Team Makhachev vs Team Oliveira??? Islam Mamedov vs Jorge Patino 1:0 WSOF 2015. Tagir Ulanbekov vs Alan Nascimento 2:0 UFC 2021. This Saturday Oct 22 3:0 InshalLah"

In the main event of UFC 280, two huge win streaks will be on the line. Oliveira has won his last 11 fights in a row, while Makhachev is on a 10-fight win streak.

One difference between the two lightweights' current runs is that the Dagestani lacks big names on his resume. 'Do Bronx' has beaten the likes of Dustin Poirier, Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler.

Makhachev's biggest wins have arguably come against Dan Hooker and Bobby Green.

This has led many to believe that the 31-year-old is undeserving of a title shot against the Brazilian. On October 23rd, Makhachev will have a fair chance to prove his critics wrong.

Charles Oliveira gives a prediction for his fight against Islam Makhachev

The first episode of 'UFC 280 Embedded' was released recently where Charles Oliveira can be seen talking about his upcoming showdown with Islam Makhachev. 'Do Bronx' compared his UFC resume with the Dagestani's and said instead of fighting for the title, Makhachev should be competing against a top-five contender.

Oliveira went on to give a prediction for the fight, saying the contest would be over inside one round:

"In my opinion, he [Islam Makhachev] should be fighting against a top 5 contender. Who's the ranked contender that Islam fought? No one! On the other hand, my 11 victories were against 11 good fighters... I fought all of the top 5...I knocked them out, submitted them...Of the 11 victories, only 1 was by decision...With all due respect, Charles Oliveira, 'do Bronx', is one step ahead of everyone. Everyone wanted to see this fight over here, but I came in to ruin their expectations. Be sure, it will not pass the first round."
