Islam Makhachev's manager validates huge power advantage against Alexander Volkanovski by KOs on his record
Ali Abdelaziz weighed in on his client Islam Makhachev's skillset ahead of his superfight with Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 on February 11.
It will be a very intriguing matchup, but Abdelaziz believes that the UFC lightweight champion will still have a huge power advantage against the featherweight champion. While speaking to The Schmo, he mentioned that Volkanvoski' power can be judged by the amount of knockouts on his record.
He said:
"I think now it's Islam's time. Islam is on a competely different level. He's bigger man, he's well more well-rounded than him. I think even people talk about striking, you know, when the last time we saw Alexander Volkanovski knock somebody out? I'm not saying it can never happen, but this is not what he does, he does a lot of volume." [1:30 - 1:49]
The MMA manager also brought up that the lightweight champion is just on a different level right now. He mentioned that Makhachev is one of the best fighters at the moment, saying:
"Islam is bigger, he have a lot of power, wrestling, grappling, ground-and-pound. He's the complete package right now. Islam one of the best fighter we ever seen in a long long time." [1:50 - 2:02]
It will be interesting to see whether 'Volk' can become the latest fighter to become a two-division UFC champion and cement his status as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Islam Makhachev wants to defeat Alexander Volkanovski via knockout
Islam Makhachev is confident that he will earn his first lightweight title defense when he fights reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski next Saturday.
While speaking to ESPN Deportes' Carlos Contreras Legaspi, the reigning lightweight champion revealed his gameplan and how he envisions defeating 'Volk' at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, saying:
"Honestly, I want to knock him out because everyone [says] that Islam is a grappler or wrestler, but I want to show people my striking. [Alexander Volkanovski] is a short guy and I really believe I can knock him out."
The challenger hasn't yet lost a fight in the UFC, so it will be interesting to see if the lightweight champion can make a statement by handing him his first loss inside the octagon.
