"It has to be the right setup" - MMA icon Demetrious Johnson gets candid about a possible boxing transition
Demetrious Johnson may have taken a backwards step away from MMA for the time being but that doesn't mean that competition isn't on his brain.
'Mighty Mouse' will always be an elite-level martial artist but he finds himself motivated by different things as of right now.
His love of jiu-jitsu and breaking down fights have become his two main passions in terms of his career but there is room for another to work its way in.
Johnson has spent a lot of time over the past year breaking down boxing fights which usually feature former MMA fighters.
Whilst he could be interested in trying his hand at this also, he recently spoke about how everything would need to be right in order for him to make that jump.
Johnson spoke on the Jaxxon Podcast about how a boxing match would have to fit him down to a tee before he agreed:
"Like I said, it has to be the right setup. It has to be the right venue, it has to be the right promotion. It has to be blown out. If it happens in an undercard too [I'm okay with it]. It'll probably take me six [months] or probably a year to train for it, just pure boxing."

Demetrious Johnson is still a competitor
Demetrious Johnson never lost that competitive edge and he's been scratching that itch through his participation in grappling tournaments.
Training for a boxing bout would give him a similar kind of focus by forcing himself to only work in one specific discipline.
Johnson has always been one of the most well-rounded fighters in the history of MMA so streamlining that to compete in a different rule set excites him.
Now that he's been putting his grappling to the test, maybe it's time to see what he's capable of with his hands.
