"It's added pressure"- Jon Jones opens up on expectations that come with Dana White labeling him the best in the world

Jon Jones recently opened up about the added expectations and pressures that come with Dana White labeling him the best fighter in the world. The UFC CEO has remained adamant that 'Bones' is not only the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but also the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

The reigning heavyweight champion made his long-awaited return to the octagon last month after recovering from an injury that sidelined him for a year. Jones wasn't affected by the layoff at all as he earned a dominant TKO win over Stipe Miocic to successfully retain his title.

While speaking to popular YouTuber Alex G Was Here, 'Bones' discussed the memes circulating on social media of the UFC CEO's praise and how it affects his performance. Jones mentioned that it has had a positive impact on him as it has forced him to live up to those expectations and believes it has brought the best out of him:

"It's added pressure to perform at a very high level. You know, there's so many memes of Dana [White], 'Jon Jones is the best fighter ever'...To have your boss praise you the way that Dana does, man, I'm so honored. I feel like no matter what job you do, to have somebody who's above you look at you in such a high regard, it's flattering."

Jon Jones says Dana White's comments motivate him to work harder and make positive lifestyle choices

In addition to opening up on the added pressure of living up to the expectations, Jon Jones said that Dana White's comments have also motivated him to put in extra work and make positive lifestyle choices.

During the aforementioned video, Jones mentioned he wants to prove White's assessment correct and said:

"I can't have Dana White out there saying, 'Jon Jones is the GOAT. He's the best', and then I go out and I suck and I don't perform at a high level, so it does put pressure on me but it just makes me want to go harder and do the extra. Eat healthy, go to bed early, stay hydrated, do my proper recovery protocol...meditation...visualization...literally everything to perform at the highest level."
