“It’s my comeback fight” - Petchtanong ‘counted the days and months’ for ONE Championship return
Former ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Petchtanong Petchfergus returns to action this week after nearly two years. He is looking to make it a comeback to remember with a victory.
The 38-year-old veteran Thai fighter is featured at ONE Friday Fights 68 on June 28 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. He will go up against fellow former bantamweight kickboxing king Alaverdi Ramazanov of Russia in a scheduled three-round scrap.
It will be his first match since being stripped of the world title in June 2023, even before he could defend it, for failing an out-of-competition drug test.
In an interview with ONE Championship in line with his anticipated comeback, Petchtanong shared that he long waited for the opportunity to showcase his skills once again and would not let it go to waste.
The Superbon Training Camp representative said:
"The moment I knew I was going to fight with Alaverdi, I was happy because I had always been waiting for the time that I could get back in the ring. I counted the days and months. In fact, I've actually been preparing for six months."
"It's my comeback fight. In my heart, there is only happiness and excitement. I want to show my best performance for everyone who comes to support me," he added.
Petchtanong became world champion in November 2022, defeating Japanese champion Hiroki Akimoto in a tightly fought title clash by split decision.
