“It’s essential to have someone you can trust” - Superlek says bantamweight move is a total team effort
Thai superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9 is fully prepared to challenge Jonathan Haggerty for his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 168: Denver on September 6.
The ONE flyweight kickboxing king praised his team throughout the entire training stage, as he understood that his physical conditioning will play a key role in his world title clash.
Superlek told ONE Championship in his latest interview that he has been working with a sports science expert named Hook for his tough task ahead.
'The Kicking Machine' needs to ensure he can pack on enough size and muscle to move up to bantamweight and make weight while hydrated, which is consistent with ONE’s global rules.
The Thai striker said:
“I feel I’m more at ease with the weight-cutting process. It’s essential to have someone you can trust on your team. This is my first time moving up to bantamweight, so he’s been a big help."
He added:
“We’ve been doing weight training, making sure that strength is increased, but not too much muscle mass because I still want to be able to defend my belt at flyweight. His knowledge is definitely valuable. I feel prepared and supported in this fight camp.”
And even more important, Superlek has already planned to return to flyweight to defend his kickboxing crown afterward.
