“It's like a whole army behind me” - Jackie Buntan says Filipino fans embraced her wholeheartedly
Jackie Buntan is proud to have the support of Filipino fight fans.
After scoring six impressive wins inside the Circle, including noteworthy victories over Nat 'Wondergirl' Jaroonsak, Amber Kitchen, Diandra Martin, and most recently, Martine Michieletto, Buntan will look to bring home her first ONE world championship when she challenges seven-time titleholder Anissa Meksen at ONE 169.
Emanating from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday night, Nov. 8, Buntan and Meksen will square off for the ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship in just one of three title fights scheduled for the event.
Speaking with ONE ahead of the biggest fighter of her career thus far, Buntan was happy to have the support of Filipinos from around the world:
"They always have my back, whether it's win or lose, they're always coming to my defense. And I don't even know these people, but it's like a whole army behind me and it's nothing but love."
Anissa Meksen determined to bring home ONE gold against Jackie Buntan
While the support of her fans is always appreciated, Jackie Buntan will need more than that if she hopes to take out a multi-time champion with more than four times the experience.
Already winning belts under the GLORY Kickboxing, ISKA, and WBC banners, Anissa Meksen goes into her fifth promotional appearance hellbent on adding 26 pounds of ONE gold to her resume before potentially wrapping up her career.
Speaking to South China Morning Post, Meksen said:
"I don’t have a list [of things I want to do]. I want to push myself a lot. I want to make crazy fights. This is the only belt missing from my collection, that’s why it’s my goal now. It’s my dream now, simply. I want this belt and I really want to make this dream come true."
Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, Nov. 8 in U.S. primetime.
