"It's me" - Interim strawweight MMA champ Jarred Brooks volunteers himself as Demetrious Johnson's next challenger
Newly minted ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks is eyeing his dream matchup after he made quick work of Gustavo Balart in their championship showdown at ONE Fight Night 24 last weekend.
Brooks submitted Balart in the opening round inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, to capture the interim crown while he awaits the return of reining divisional world titleholder Joshua Pacio from injury.
During his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson, 'The Monkey God' made his intention clear on who he wants to face next if 'The Passion' is still not ready to go for a unification match, and that is the reigning ONE flyweight MMA world champion Demetrious Johnson.
In a recent post that ONE Championship published about Johnson, Brooks is still campaigning on the video with the caption:
"'Mighty Mouse' reigns supreme 👑 What's on the horizon for Demetrious Johnson? @mighty"
'The Monkey God' posted two comments:
"Me vs. dj!!"
"It's me"
If this fight happens, it will not be the first time that the Mash Fight Team representative will compete in the flyweight division. He previously challenged Mikey Musumeci for the ONE flyweight submission grappling world title in August 2023 at ONE Fight Night 13.
Jarred Brooks gets an invite to Team Lakay camp from head coach Mark Sangiao
In the ONE Fight Night 24 post-fight interview, Brooks revealed that he received an invite to the famed Team Lakay gym in Baguio City, Philippines, from its head coach Mark Sangiao.
According to him, the renowned tactician invited him after his second meeting against Pacio and he is welcome to drop by the gym anytime. If this comes to fruition, it will add more flavor to the rivalry between him and Pacio since it is his former team.
