Paddy Pimblett reveals the fight that got him into MMA

During a recent episode of the Chattin Pony podcast featuring Forrest Griffin, Paddy Pimblett revealed the one fight that kickstarted his love for MMA.

'The Baddy' is one of the most discussed stars in the sport at present. He's managed to increase his fanbase tenfold since joining the UFC from Cage Warriors last year. Unbeaten in his opening three fights inside the octagon, the Scouser will likely be knocking on the door of the top 15 at lightweight soon.

Speaking on Chattin Pony with former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, Paddy Pimblett described the one bout that led him to MMA, saying:

"The first fight that I saw that got me into MMA was Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida. It was a scrap, just like yours [Forrest Griffin] and Stephan Bonnar. Then I was just like, 'I need to fight.'"

The war between Sanchez and Guida saw 'The Nightmare' come out on top via a split decision on the night. The brawl stole the show at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale back in 2009. However, despite winning, the TUF 1 winner could never quite capture the heights he once had, seeing his career go on a downward spiral.

Ten years on from the bout, the UFC decided to induct it into their Hall of Fame and forever solidify it as one of the greatest fights to ever take place inside the coveted octagon. Though the two had long careers, they will always be remembered by fans for their thrilling three-round collision over a decade ago.

When is Paddy Pimblett fighting next?

Like clockwork, Paddy Pimblett has once again slimmed down and gotten into fighting shape as he prepares for arguably his toughest test in the octagon to date. Jared Gordon is slated to stand across from him next.

The problematic five-year UFC veteran has reigned victorious in four of his last five fights and is looking to steal the Brit's hype.

Pimblett will welcome the 34-year-old into the cage and put on yet another stellar performance when UFC 282 rolls around at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 10.
