“It still needs a lot of work” - Danial Williams wants to perfect MMA style despite insistence on fighting Muay Thai in next bout

Danial Williams believes he still has much to improve on his growing mixed martial arts game.

The Thai-Australian firestarter is coming off a crucial unanimous decision win over Banma Duoji in their 136.25-pound catchweight MMA bout at ONE Fight Night 25 this past weekend at Lumpinee Stadium.

Williams, one of the rare fighters to compete in three sports in ONE Championship, broke his four-fight skid at a crucial juncture of his career when he overcame Banma in a slug-out affair.

In an Instagram video he shot in the back tunnels of Lumpinee Stadium, Danial Williams expressed his relief at finally returning to the win column.

He also said that despite beating Banma with his trademark striking, he still needs to put in the work and improve his MMA arsenal.

"I’m still gonna work on my MMA technique because it still needs a lot of work," said Williams.

A natural striker, Williams used his Muay Thai and kickboxing backgrounds to establish his offense against Banma in their Bangkok showdown.

Williams looked to avoid getting into the ground, even if presented with taking top position, just to build up on his striking.

The only instances when Williams relied on his grappling were to escape Banma and get the fight restarted on the feet, which happened several times during the match.

With the victory, Williams improved his MMA record in ONE Championship to four wins.

Danial Williams admits breathing a huge sigh of relief after beating Banma Douji at ONE Fight Night 25

Danial Williams didn't have the best run of form heading into his match against Banma Douji.

The three-sport phenom previously lost to Jeremy Miado, Superlek Kiatmoo9, Jonathan Di Bella, and Lito Adiwang while competing in kickboxing and MMA.

Williams' losses to Di Bella and Superlek were also for world titles.

'Mini T' lost his chance at the ONE flyweight kickboxing title when he lost to Superlek at ONE Fight Night 8. He then moved down to his then-natural strawweight but lost to Di Bella for the division's kickboxing strap at ONE Fight Night 15.

Taking to Instagram, Williams couldn't help but feel relieved of finally ending the skid.

He said:

"I just wanna say thank you so much for the support. Finally got the win, it's been a long time coming. I knew I just had to really change my style, I just wanna go in there in MMA but I really had to be patient. Thank you to everyone who helped me get here."
