"It was a stupid mistake" - Regian Eersel rues careless knockdown that cost him the title against Alexis Nicolas
Former lightweight kickboxing kingpin Regian Eersel continues to replay the ill-fated events that cost him the title against Alexis Nicolas to this day.
'The Immortal' lost his coveted belt by just one point - an unforeseen knockdown in the second round of his world title defense against ONE newcomer Alexis Nicolas.
Despite doing everything he could to oust his French rival, Eersel was regrettably handed his first promotional loss by way of a unanimous decision.
Blaming himself, Eersel believes that if he hadn't been too careless, the bout would have probably gone his way. Speaking to ONE Championship ahead of their grudge rematch at ONE Fight Night 25, 'The Immortal ' said:
"I was thinking it was a stupid mistake by myself, and of course, it was also a well-placed punch. But yeah, like I said, I was not dizzy or something."
ONE Fight Night 25 will air live on Friday, Oct. 4, in US primetime free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in North America.
"I am really going to put the pressure on him" - Regian Eersel aims to find a definitive finish at OFN25 and dethrone Alexis Nicolas
Regian Eersel might be disappointed in himself after that last fight with Alexis Nicolas, but he's fired up to remove all doubts as to the real champion.
Unlike ever before, Eersel made sure that no stone was left unturned during training, both physically and mentally.
When it comes to his mental state, Eersel has one of the strongest mindsets in the business. Already used to fighting in high-pressure situations, 'The Immortal' hopes to use that to his advantage.
Nicolas has only been a world champion for the last five months and has yet to defend his title. So, Nicolas has more to lose compared to Eersel, and the challenger just hopes to land a KO before the nerves slip away:
"I'm really going to put the pressure on him," Eersel told ONE, "And he will feel it."
