“It turned out better for me” - Danny Kingad welcomes ONE 169’s move from Atlanta to Bangkok
Filipino flyweight MMA contender Danny Kingad said he has no problem with the change in venue for his upcoming fight. In fact, he believes that all things considered, it should work to his benefit.
'The King' returns to action at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Nov. 8 in a rematch against former ONE flyweight MMA king Adriano Moraes. It was initially penciled in to take place in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. but recently moved to the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Danny Kingad spoke about the change in venue for his redo with Moraes in an interview with Sportskeeda MMA, highlighting how he expects it to help his cause:
"I think it turned out better for me. I feel that it might be more difficult to adjust in Atlanta considering the weather and the fact that it's practically haf a day time difference from the Philippines. So I think it's just fine that it was moved to Bangkok."
Danny Kingad's clash with Moraes at ONE 169 is a rematch of their first encounter in November 2017, which he lost by submission in the opening round. He is coming into the contest off a loss by decision to Japanese Yuya Wakamatsu in January.
ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' will be aired live and for free to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Danny Kingad open to competing in mixed-rules matches
Danny Kingad does not see himself deviating too much from his traditional lane of MMA but is open to dipping his hands in mixed-rules matches in ONE Championship to challenge himself further.
He shared this in an interview with Sportskeeda MMA ahead of his return to action at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Nov. 8, just as he underscored he is not too keen on competing in striking-only matches.
Kingad said:
"No, I still want to focus on MMA. I'm just open to competing in mixed rules to try something new as a different challenge. It's going to be difficult to compete against the best strikers in the world if I fight to their rules exclusively."
ONE Championship every now and then sets up mixed-rules fights among its athletes, where they compete in multi-discipline matches incorporated in one bout.
