Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis fight rescheduled for new date in Manchester
The highly anticipated clash between Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis has been rescheduled for later this year. The two fighters will now lock horns on Oct. 26 at the Co-op Live in Manchester, England.
Catterall and Prograis were originally scheduled to face off in a 12-round junior welterweight bout on Aug. 24 at the same venue. But 'El Gato' suffered an injury and had to withdraw from the fight.
Catterall was last seen in action in May 2024 when he went toe-to-toe against Josh Taylor in a 12-round clash at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England. The fight was a rematch as their first encounter in February 2022 ended with a split decision victory for Taylor.
In the rematch, Catterall proved himself to be the better fighter and scored a unanimous decision victory over 'The Tartan Tornado'. The three judges scored the bout 116-113, 117-111 and 117-111 in favor of 'El Gato'.
Prograis, on the other hand, last competed in December 2023 against Devin Haney for the WBC light welterweight belt at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
The fight was a one-sided affair as Haney outclassed his opponent for the majority of the 12-round clash. In the end, all three judges scored the bout 120-107 in favor of 'The Dream'.
Regis Prograis spoke about fighting Jack Catterall in 2022
Regis Prograis has been interested in a fight with Jack Catterall for quite some time. After defeating Tyrone McKenna in March 2022, 'Rougarou' did a post-fight interview where he expressed his wish to share the squared circle with the British boxer.
Prograis stated that although his next fight would possibly be against Jose Zepeda, the 35-year-old argued that the winner of that clash should lock horns against 'El Gato'.
"I don't think it could be my next fight because... me and Zepeda supposed to fight for the WBC, so I don't think that could be my next fight. But the winner will get Jack Catterall. I think Catterall does deserve a chance at the shot of the belt."
