Jackie Buntan confident Anissa Meksen will feel her power in bigger gloves: "The strength is still going to be there"
Jackie Buntan is currently underway with preparations for one of the biggest challenges of her career to date. The Filipino-American has never been the kind to back down from a challenge and she certainly stepped up to the plate ahead of ONE 169.
At Lumpinee Stadium on Nov. 8, the Muay Thai specialist will make the switch over to kickboxing, which comes with a different ruleset.
Buntan will collide with the experienced and acclaimed competitor Anissa Meksen for the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship in Bangkok, Thailand.
One of the biggest changes that Buntan needs to adapt to is the difference in the gloves. Switching from the usual four-ounce Muay Thai gloves to the bigger kickboxing gloves changes the way that you both attack and defend.
One thing that Buntan doesn't expect to be any different is the power that she brings to the table.
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, she said that she still expects her power to be a defining characteristic in this fight despite the additional padding:
"I think, just like all my matches, that's definitely going to be one of my strong suits. It doesn't matter that the gloves are bigger, I think the strength is still going to be there."
Jackie Buntan will look to put the pressure on Anissa Meksen
Jackie Buntan needs to play to her strengths on Nov. 8 in order to leave Bangkok with the kickboxing world championship.
Trying to beat an opponent like Anissa Meksen at her own game will be an incredibly tough task.
However, Buntan does hold advantages in this fight that we have seen from her Muay Thai bouts under the ONE Championship banner.
Her punching power is something that separates the 27-year old competitor from the rest of the pack.
Landing big on Meksen could be the difference between victory and defeat for Jackie Buntan at ONE 169.
