Jackie Buntan not selling herself short for Anissa Meksen war: “I’m very confident in the strength and power that I have”
Jackie Buntan has gained confidence due to her physical attributes heading into ONE 169.
In July, Buntan was scheduled to face Anissa Meksen at ONE Fight Night 23, with the vacant women's strawweight kickboxing world title on the line. Unfortunately, the American superstar suffered an injury and had to pull out, postponing the intriguing matchup between world-class female strikers.
Buntan vs. Meksen has been rescheduled for ONE 169 on Nov. 8. Buntan recently joined ABS-CBN News for an interview about the upcoming fight and had this to say about her confidence:
"I'm very confident in the strength and power that I have, and the athleticism that I have."
Jackie Buntan vs. Anissa Meksen isn't the only world title fight taking place at ONE 169. In the main event, three-division king Anatoly Malykhin looks to defend his heavyweight throne against 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane.
The Nov. 8 event also features Christian Lee vs. Alibeg Rasulov (lightweight MMA world title) and Rodtang vs. Jacob Smith II (flyweight Muay Thai world title).
ONE 169 goes down inside the iconic combat sports venue of Lumpinee Stadium. The upcoming spectacle can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Jackie Buntan looks to take out Anissa Meksen before avenging lone promotional loss
Jackie Buntan made her ONE Championship debut in February 2021. Since then, the American superstar has established a 6-1 record, with her lone loss coming against former two-time ONE women's strawweight Muay Thai world champion Smilla Sundell.
Smilla Sundell is undefeated in the promotion (4-0 in Muay Thai and 1-0 in kickboxing). The 19-year-old lost her strawweight belt last time out due to missing weight before defeating Natalia Diachkova.
Heading into ONE 169, Buntan is coming off three consecutive Muay Thai wins and plans to extend her streak in kickboxing. With a win against Anissa Meksen, Buntan could be set up for a must-see rematch against Sundell in either kickboxing or "The Art of Eight Limbs."
Meanwhile, Meksen last fought in December 2023 when Phetjeeja defeated her for the ONE interim women's atomweight kickboxing world title. 'C18' had her promotional records pushed to 1-1 in kickboxing and 2-0 in Muay Thai, which she plans to improve with a win against Buntan at ONE 169.
