Jacob Smith on potential fight against Nico Carrillo: “There’s no chance on this planet”
ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai world title challenger Jacob Smith of the United Kingdom is quick to shoot down any notion of him ever moving up to bantamweight to face one of the biggest stars in that division.
As one of the promotion's top flyweight talents, Smith says he would never even contemplate moving up a weight class for a potentially massive showdown against 'King of the North' Nico Carrillo.
Speaking to South China Morning Post in a recent interview, Smith talked about a potential matchup against the Scottish star.
The 32-year-old Bad Company / Thaifist representative said:
"There’s no chance on this planet am I moving up to 65.8 and fighting Nico Carrillo. Let me just get that out there. There’s not a chance. He’s the biggest bantamweight you can get and I’m probably a relatively small flyweight, I would say. I would probably still do 130 pounds hydrated."
So that's that. But could Smith take on a few bantamweights at a catchweight? It's possible, according to the Englishman. That opens up a few potentially massive superfights against guys the likes of Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek Kiatmoo9.
However, Smith needs to focus on the task at hand before even thinking about future fights. His next matchup is a big one.
