Jake Paul calls boxing match against “lunatic” Mike Perry a “major risk” with Netflix payday looming on the horizon

Jake Paul confirmed that he will fight Bareknuckle boxing sensation and ex-UFC fighter Mike Perry on July 20. Paul was expected to fight Mike Tyson on the same date. However, the fight was postponed after Tyson's health concern due to an ulcer flare-up that required medical attention on his flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

In a recent YouTube video, Paul confirmed the reports that he will fight Perry on July 20. He added that the Tyson fight is still intact and he will face the boxing legend in November, which will be streamed live on Netflix.

According to Paul, he chose to fight Perry to gain more boxing experience. Speaking further, Paul acknowledged 'Platinum' as a dangerous opponent and said:

“This guy is a f*cking lunatic. He’s undefeated in bare-knuckle, which is probably the craziest sport in the world. Not to mention, this fight has been brewing for years. I think this fight is going to have some amazing press conference moments and really entertaining stuff that comes from it, but it is a major risk. I’m literally potentially sacrificing the biggest moment of my career, the biggest payday of my career if I lose to Mike Perry. But for some reason, these are the positions that I like to put myself in.”

Jake Paul gives official prediction for the Mike Perry fight

Throughout his boxing career, Jake Paul has been criticized for fighting over-the-hill MMA fighters instead of young competitors. His fight against Mike Tyson was also criticized due to the massive 30-year age gap between them.

While Paul has looked dominant in most of his boxing fights against older opponents, he gave a confident prediction for his upcoming fight against a young Mike Perry.

Speaking further in the aforementioned YouTube video, Paul said:

“My official prediction for the fight - Three rounds or less. Calling it now. These guys can’t hang with me, nobody’s really been able to see my skill from the past year. I’ve had new coaches, development has gone f***ing amazing, and I’m excited to put on a performance July 20.” [4:28]

Paul is coming off a first-round knockout win over former Golden Gloves champion Ryan Bourland in his last outing in March 2024. He holds a 9-1 record overall.

Meanwhile, Perry has elevated his career to a new level since transitioning to bare-knuckle fighting. He is currently 5-0 in the sport and has defeated reputed MMA fighters like Thiago Alves, Eddie Alvarez, Luke Rockhold, and Michael Page. The fight against Paul will mark Perry's second professional boxing appearance. He lost to Kenneth McNeil via fourth-round KO in his professional boxing debut in March 2015.
