Jake Paul sets out to "end" Mike Tyson after talk of 'Iron' kickstarting his career
Jake Paul believes that Nov. 15 will mark the final fight of Mike Tyson's decorated career. Even with the controversy surrounding the fight, Paul is intent on "ending" the career of his 58-year-old opponent.
Hours after their first promotional press conference since the fight was re-booked, Paul took to X to send a message to the former heavyweight champion. 'The Problem Child' said he believes that he will be delivering a "painful lesson" to the fighter he once looked up to while predicting a violent finish.
Paul tweeted:
"This is going to be a painful lesson for Mike Tyson. He likes to say he gave me my start in boxing. Well, I'm going to give him his end. #PaulTyson"
At his advanced age, Tyson had already retired from the sport before the fight was shockingly announced in March and has not competed in a professional bout since 2005. 'Iron' has competed in two exhibition matches since then, most recently against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul's history
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have never formally spent a training camp together but have been familiar with one another since the 27-year-old began his boxing career.
Paul is not a student of Tyson's, nor have they ever been close friends, but 'The Problem Child' competed for the first time on a major stage on the undercard of "Lockdown Knockdown," headlined by Tyson's return fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
The fight was the second of Jake Paul's professional career after winning his debut against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib 10 months prior. However, his knockout of former NBA star Nate Robinson gave him the first highlight of his career and took his popularity to the next level with all eyes on the boxing event amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five months after the win over Robinson, Paul would headline his first pay-per-view card against former MMA champion Ben Askren.
