Jamahal Hill eyes a potential super-fight against Jon Jones
After successfully silencing the critics and rightfully earning light heavyweight gold, Jamahal Hill has announced his interest in a potential super-fight against Jon Jones, though he wants to defend his title numerous times before that bout.
'Sweet Dreams' put on a fantastic display as he overwhelmed Glover Teixeira and became a UFC champion when the two met in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 283 last month. Many believed the Contender Series alum was going to struggle in the grappling department but showed he is a well-versed and deserved champion.
When asked whether he would welcome a super-fight with Jon Jones, Jamahal Hill insisted that, while he still has work to do in his division, a meeting with the Hall-of-Famer is a challenge that he would welcome.
"Yeah, [fight against Jon Jones] it's never stopped crossing my mind. One thousand percent [I want that fight]. I still got some building to do, I still have [title] defenses that I have to make and things like that, but is that a challenge that I want for the future? Yes, it is."
While it would be a great affair, the mega-fight between Hill and Jones doesn't quite make sense at present and both men are being lined up against completely different opponents.
Next up, 'Bones' will have the chance to capture heavyweight gold when he collides with Ciryl Gane in the UFC 285 headliner on March 4. If he manages to win the vacant title, a champ vs. champ matchup against the 205lb king could be a huge event for all involved.
Check out what Jamahal Hill had to say about a possible future bout with Jones in the video below.
Will Jon Jones ever return to light heavyweight?
Although he hasn't made his official heavyweight debut as of yet, Jon Jones' career at 205 looks all but over as it will likely take the 35-year-old too much effort and time to safely return to the division
The NJCAA wrestler spent three years away from the octagon perfecting his move up in weight, and while he hasn't made any indication of his next move, it could be a case of win or bust for the fan-favorite.
Jones is approaching the latter stages of his career. If he is unable to hang with the younger, possibly hungrier heavyweights, he can bow out of the sport with his head held high having accomplished so much throughout his time in the cage.
