Japanese legend Takeru Segawa says he’s at “the climax” of his time as a martial artist after celebrating 33rd birthday

Takeru Segawa's comeback has been finally announced, and the kickboxing legend feels he's at the top of his game after celebrating his 33rd birthday.

ONE Championship announced that Takeru will have his second fight in the promotion at ONE Friday Fights 81 when he faces off against Thai star Black Panther on September 27 at Lumpinee Stadium.

Ahead of his return, and in celebration of his birthday, Takeru said he's in the best shape of his career and ready to show Black Panther why he's an all-time kickboxing great.

Takeru Segawa wrote on Instagram:

"I became 33 years old! Thanks for many birthday wishes! Right now, it's the climax of my time as a martial artist. The fight on 27 Sep is the first. I will definitely win and survive. Please keep supporting me this year as well."

Takeru is one of the best kickboxers in history, and arguably Japan's greatest, with a 43-4 professional record and multiple world titles in his collection.

He also captured the K-1 super bantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight world titles, making him the only three-division world champion in the promotion.

'The Natural Born Crusher' ultimately signed with ONE Championship and debuted for the promotion at ONE 165 in January this year.

Takeru, however, failed in his bid for the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title after losing to Superlek Kiatmoo9 via unanimous decision.

Despite a spirited effort, and a near-finish in the third round, Takeru suffered multiple muscle tears in his left leg courtesy of Superlek's incessant leg kicks.

Takeru Segawa links up with former Japanese Olympic boxer Katsuaki Susa ahead of his return

Takeru Segawa had an eventful few months ahead of his return to action at ONE Friday Fights 81.

The Japanese megastar first trained at Boxing Works in California for almost a month before returning to Japan.

Once back in his home country, Takeru linked up with former Japanese Olympic boxer Katsuaki Susa to improve on his already devastating boxing.

He posted on Instagram:

"I started having Susa-san look at my punches. The impact has completely changed. I will incorporate it into myself so that I can use it in my comeback match. Thank you always!"
